April 28, 1998This is probably going to disappoint quite a few, but for what appears to be 'personal matters', Jerry has cancelled his appearance at WBCN River Rave which is still to take place on May 31 at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA. Soul Asylum will apparently be filling in. (Thanks to Tom Larney and Corey Desrosiers).
April 27, 1998It looks like the chat with Sean Kinney organized by Boom Theory, which was previously scheduled to take place on May 6, has been moved forward to April 29. The chat will start at 7:00 PM GMT (11:00 AM Pacific Time). Once again, that's April 29, 7:00 PM GMT, http://www.boomtheory.com/BoomChat/.

April 19, 1998Latest reports indicate that Jerry will be playing a number of pre-summer tour/warm up shows in the very near future, one of them being WBCN River Rave at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA on Sunday, May 31. In what promises to be a great whole-day outdoor event, Jerry will be joined by Green Day, Offspring, Scott Weiland, Creed, Semisonic, Blink 182 and a number of other bands. The tickets go on sale Saturday, April 25 at Noon, and be can purchased by calling 423-NEXT or 423-6000. Click here for full details (Thanks to Corey for this info).
According to SoundScan, 'Boggy Depot' debuted at No. 28 on the U.S. album charts, selling 47,000 copies during its first week of release.
To add, the album was released in Australia on April 15.
April 8, 1998Jerry's Metallica support tour is proving to be a huge success, as most of the shows are already sold out. In fact, the demand for tickets in some locations was so high that several extra shows were added to the schedule. Check the 'Tour' section for details.
According to Billboard, Cut You In is No. 6 on Mainstream Rock Tracks and No. 16 on Modern Rock Tracks. Can't say these figures say much to me but then again, it's charts we're discussing here. Make of them what you will.
Also, if you're feeling lucky, check out a Jerry Cantrell contest which is being run by NEWBURY COMICS INTERACTIVE (http://www.newbury.com/promo2.htm). The folks organizing the contest claim that "two Grand Prize Winners will receive the complete Alice In Chains CD Catalog and a copy of Jerry's new CD 'Boggy Depot' and 30 runners up will receive copies of 'Boggy Depot' on vinyl." Might be worth the hassle. And no, I'm not getting paid for publishing this info... although I should be! :-).
And finally, yes 'Boggy Depot' is out. Yes it rocks. Go buy!
March 21, 1998It is now official - Jerry Cantrell and Days Of The New will be the opening acts for Metallica's North American summer tour. Check the 'Tour' section for a list of known dates or try calling your local TicketMaster office to see if they have any further information.
March 18, 1998HAPPY 32nd BIRTHDAY TO JERRY! Let there be less bullshit!
March 15, 1998Everyone with an access to MTV should tune into MTV's 120 Minutes this Sunday (3/15) at midnight (eastern time) to catch the premiere of Jerry's Cut You In video. For more info on the show, go here. (Thanks to Suzi for forwarding this info).
Furthermore, CDnow are finally taking preorders for CD and cassette formats of 'Boggy Depot' as opposed to just vinyl, the format they started out with.
March 14, 1998The latest (689) issue of Kerrang! magazine featured a top 100 list of 'Guitarists that changed your world' and guess who ended up at number 15? That's right, none other than our good old Jerry! Appearing in front of some of the most notable rock guitarists including Steve Vai (67), Joe Satriani (63), Mike McCready (56), Ritchie Blackmore (39), Kirk Hammett (35), and Stone Gossard (16), it seems like Jerry was awarded a placement he should be quite proud of. Here's the blurb that came along:
15 - Jerry Cantrell - Alice In ChainsThe number 1 spot went to Jimmy Page. When it comes to spewing out sick, bloated riffs with no more right to be on God's earth than a tap-dancing weasel, Jerry Cantrell is your man. The perfect accompaniment to Layne Staley's hellish personal exorcisms, Cantrell's riffs are dark and diseased yet painfully melodic, down-tuned grinders with the weight of the world upon their manly shoulders.
Greatest riff: Them Bones from 'Dirt' is about as harmonically harrowing as riffs come.
Jerry's Guitar Class:
What's the first guitar you bought? "Well, I actually stole my first guitar from my cousin! But the first one I bought, I think it was a Korean Strat copy... probably an imitation Tabacco Burst."
What is the first song you learn to play?
"Probably Purple's Smoke On The Water - just like everyone else."
Who are your favorite guitarists? "Angus Young, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Tony Iommi... a lot of British guys like Dave Murray and Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden, Dave Gilmour. As for more recent guys, I like Kendall Jones from Fishbone a lot, Dimebag Darrell from Pantera, and Dean DeLeo from Stone Temple Pilots - he's a good player and songwriter."
What advise would you give to aspiring rock guitarist?
"I guess, basically, do your own thing. We all need to start somewhere, and I think everyone learns through the admiration of another player or style, but stick to your guns and do what makes you happy. Play what you wanna play."
Which of your own riffs is your favorite?
"Probably Them Bones or Rain When I Die."
March 7, 1998OK then, here's the latest scoop.
According to muzic.com news, Jerry Cantrell has, under 'very suspicious circumstances', stopped doing interviews for his debut album 'Boggy Depot'. No further explanation was given, although, seeing how most interviewers seem to only be interested in hearing about Layne and Alice In Chains, some reasons become more probable that others.
On a happier note, Sean Kinney, the drummer with Jerry Cantrell and Alice In Chains, will be stopping by for a live chat on Boom Theory Chat on May 6 at 6:30 PM Pacific Time. More details as soon as they are available.
According to Columbia's official Jerry Cantrell Web site, the video for Cut You In should be ready soon.
And finally, CDnow are already taking pre-orders for a limited double vinyl edition of 'Boggy Depot'. For more info go to cdnow.com and search for Jerry Cantrell.
