SEAN KINNEY SAYS MIKE INEZ MAY JOIN BOGGY DEPOT TOUR

Boom Theory, those mavens in Seattle who manufacture those very cool electro-percussion systems they call Spacemuffins, have come up with another coup. They managed not only to get Alice In Chains' drummer Sean Kinney to come to their very state-of-the-art factory, but also sat him down in front of a computer and got him to reveal some deep secrets - like the fact that not only will he be accompanying Jerry Cantrell during his Boggy Depot tour, but that they've all but convinced AIC bassist Mike Inez to come with them, after he had half-promised Ozzy Osbourne that he'd play in his band during Ozz Fest. "I talk to [the other members of AIC] all the time," said the drummer. "Actually, Mike might be playing bass with us on the tour." After parking his sleekblack Porsche 911 in the company parking lot, the celebrated drummer got down to business, telling his fans that "I'm more comfortable with a toaster in front of me than a keyboard." But if you ask us, he performed quite nicely, at least in the beginning, bending over backwards to be cordial to fans, and making very few typing errors. Well, he is a drummer, and the job does require a good measure of hand-eye coordination.

Kinney, who was full of the devil today, zinged the Days of the New with the comment that "The Alice cover band Days of the New is going to tour with us." But when it came to himself, Kinney was rather coy, vaguely explaining after being queried about his solo projects that he is "working on a few," finally admitting after his hard-core following pushed him that he is "going to Los Angeles next week to put together a band." He hedged on what he and Cantrell would be playing on the tour opening up for Metallica, hinting only that in addition to songs from 'Boggy Depot' they "may do some Alice." He also let slip that there was a possibility that [AIC vocalist] Layne Staley might show up on some of the dates. Other little known facts about this very gregarious stickman: he "sings like a lark," his favorite drink is "water," his favorite song is "Stairway To Heaven," and his favorite drummer joke is "Why did God give drummers one more IQ point than a horse? So they wouldn't shit in the streets during parades" (what do you mean, you don't get it?). Kinney echoed Jerry Cantrell's position that Alice In Chains is not broken up but "on hiatus," and told his fans that "the only difference [doing 'Boggy Depot'] was that Layne and Mike weren't there." Things began to deteriorate a bit after that, with Kinney declaring that "Paul is dead and I am the Walrus," and explaining to one inquisitive soul that upon entering Mexico, "I look forward to a full capacity search." If you didn't glean enough fun facts from this Sean Kinney chat, Boom Theory [www.boomtheory.com] has lured him back at 6:30 pm on May 6 to let you interrogate him further.
