Although Jerry Cantrell has a solo album coming out, he says Alice In Chains has not broken up. "Jerry said they will make another album, we just don't know when," said Jocelynn Loebl, the band's spokeswoman at Columbia Records.

Cantrell, axeman and songwriter for the Seattle-based alt-grunge band, will release 'Boggy Depot', his first solo effort, on Mar. 24. He has been wanting to make his own record for a long time, and now just seemed like the time to do it, according to Loebl.

Cantrell sings and plays guitar on all the songs, plays piano on a few, and enlists some well-known, hard-rocking friends to fill in the holes. On bass, Cantrell recruited Primus frontman Les Claypool, Pantera's Rex Brown and Fishbone's Norwood Fisher, as well as Alice bassman Mike Inez.

Fishbone singer and sax player Angelo Moore was brought in to play horns on two tracks, and Alice drummer Sean Kinney can be heard banging away on the skins on most of the songs.

Of the album, Cantrell said a lot of it will be reminiscent of Alice In Chains. In the February issue of Alternative Press, Cantrell notes that there's more variety and cohesion to this album and that he's interested to see what people think about it.

Loebl said that since it's been such a long time since Alice In Chains has released an album there's a lot of anticipation for 'Boggy Depot'. "There's a lot of rock tunes, but there's also some very laid back bluesy tunes as well. Alice fans will love it," she said.

The album, which was recorded in both San Francisco and Seattle, will be released by Columbia Records.
